Growing up in Atlantic Beach, Jonathan attended the Bolles School and then Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. At Vanderbilt Jonathan majored in Geology and minored in American Politics. He was a four year letterman on the varsity cross country and track teams and a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity.
After graduating from Vanderbilt in 1997, Jonathan attended law school at Vermont Law School in South Royalton, VT where he focused on environmental law. He was active both with the moot court and environmental moot court teams all three years and spent a semester interning in Washington, D.C. at the Ocean Conservancy. At the Ocean Conservancy Jonathan focused on efforts to bring all coastal states into compliance with the Coastal Zone Management Act and on litigation involving the Clean Water Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
After graduating from law school in 2000 Jonathan moved to Washington, D.C. to pursue a career in environmental law. Once in Washington he began working as an associate at Defender's of Wildlife, an environmental non-profit group where he continued his focus on Endangered Species Act litigation. Jonathan also worked as an associate at the Rotbert Law group, a boutique firm in Rockville, MD where he focused on environmental issues for clients in the state of Florida.
Jonathan moved home to Jacksonville in the winter of 2003 after accepting a position as an Assistant Public Defender for the Fourth Judicial Circuit. He switched gears from environmental law to criminal law and developed his skills as a trial attorney. Over the next 4 and a half years he represented thousands of clients in all aspects of criminal law, from minor 2nd degree misdemeanors, to DUI's, to serious 1st degree felonies, and tried over 30 jury trials. He received special recognition for the work he did representing his clients both in the Habitual Felony Offender divisions and Civil Commitment divisions.
In November 2007, Jonathan began practicing as an associate with Zisser, Robison, Brown, Nowlis, and Maciejewski. He will be continuing his focus in criminal law, criminal trials, and environmental law as well as practicing in the firm's specialty areas of matrimonial law and family law.
Jonathan is currently a member of the Florida Bar Association and Jacksonville Bar Association and will soon be a member of the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. He also serves on the Alumni Board of the Bolles School and the Young Leadership Division of the Jacksonville Jewish Federation. In his free time Jonathan enjoys the beach, cheering on the Jaguars, surfing, biking, and travelling to new and interesting locations.
