In contrast, intentional torts occur when an individual takes an intentional action to harm another individual. An example of an intentional tort is when a person physically assaults someone. The action was deliberately planned and done with the intent to harm someone. In Hawaii, an individual who is found to be liable for either a negligence or intentional tort could be required to pay damages to the injured party. Negligence and intentional torts are both serious civil offenses and can result in significant legal consequences.
