What are the common causes of car accidents?
In Florida, the most common causes of car accidents include distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding, and running of stop signs or red lights. Distracted driving is the act of performing any other activity while driving, such as talking on the phone, texting, eating, and applying makeup. Impaired driving is when a driver operates a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, which can impair a person’s ability to safely operate a vehicle. Speeding, or exceeding the posted speed limit, can make it harder to safely navigate roads and can also cause drivers to lose control of their vehicle. Additionally, running stop signs or red lights interrupts the flow of traffic, puts other drivers in danger, and can cause serious collisions. It is important to be aware of and practice safe driving habits in order to help prevent car accidents. Remaining alert and focused while behind the wheel, avoiding distracted driving, never drinking and driving, observing speed limits, and obeying traffic control devices are all key to safe driving and preventing accidents. Florida law enforcement officers are committed to protecting the public and reducing the risks associated with car accidents, and following simple safety precautions is one of the most effective ways to help keep the roads and highways of Florida safe.
