What is an insurance adjuster?

An insurance adjuster is a person who evaluates claims made on insurance policies. In Hawaii, insurance adjusters have the responsibility to investigate claims, gather evidence, and negotiate settlements in order to determine the amount of compensation to be paid to the claimant. They work for insurance companies and independent agencies, and are responsible for evaluating claims and making decisions about the validity of a claim, the amount of coverage to be paid, and any legal issues related to the claim. When a claim is received, an adjuster will investigate the facts of the case, including interviewing witnesses, analyzing medical reports, and conducting research to obtain necessary information. Once they have evaluated the claim, they are responsible for negotiating a settlement with the claimant in order to provide fair compensation. Insurance adjusters must also be familiar with the legal aspects of insurance law, and must be able to explain the details of the policy to the insured party should any disputes arise. Insurance adjusters play an important role in determining the validity of claims and how much compensation is due to the claimant, and are a vital part of the insurance process in Hawaii.
