What is a demand letter?

A demand letter is a document that states the legal rights of a person who has suffered an injury or damages due to an accident. In North Carolina, a demand letter is a formal way to express a demand for payment from the person who caused the accident or their insurance company. It is usually sent after an investigation has been conducted to determine who is responsible for the accident and the damages that occurred. A demand letter typically outlines the details of the accident, explains the damages caused by the accident, and outlines what the injured party should receive as compensation. It also includes information about how the injured party will be compensated, including the amount of money sought, a timeline for repayment, and any other terms that may be relevant to the agreement. The demand letter also includes a deadline by which the payment must be made. The demand letter should be sent to the person responsible for the accident or the person’s insurance company. It must be sent before legal action can be taken. Once the demand letter is received, the person responsible for the accident or their insurance company has the right to respond with a counteroffer. Once both parties have reached an agreement on the payment, a settlement can be reached.
