What is the scope of maritime law?

Maritime law, or Admiralty law, is a body of law that governs the relationships and legal rights of ships, their owners, and their crew. It has been in existence for centuries and is recognized in every major industrialized nation as an essential part of the global economy. In Nebraska, the scope of maritime law includes the regulation of the transportation of people and goods on oceans and seas; settlement of international disputes arising from oceanic activities; and the protection of the environment from any form of pollution coming from ships.
