What is the purpose of the Federal Register?
The Federal Register is a publication of the United States government that contains rules, proposed rules, and public notices for federal agencies. Its purpose is to provide the public with information regarding federal regulations and other government processes. This publication also serves as the official source of information from the federal government. The Federal Register is published daily, Monday through Friday, and is available for online viewing free of charge. It is divided into five parts, each having a distinct purpose. Part I consists of Presidential Documents, such as Executive Orders and Proclamations, that have the effect of law. Part II includes proposed rules and notices from the federal agencies. Part III contains rules that have been adopted and become effective. Part IV contains notices from the agencies, such as requests for public comment and notices of hearings.
