How can I adopt a sibling group?
In order to adopt a sibling group in Colorado, you must meet certain prerequisites. To start, you must be at least 21 years of age and either a resident of Colorado or have authorization from a Colorado court. Additionally, you must be able to financially provide for the children, as well as demonstrate that you can meet the emotional, physical, and developmental needs of the children. The adoption process begins with you filing an application with the court. This application will include information about yourself, including any relevant medical and criminal history, as well as any other information pertaining to your circumstances. Once the application is approved, the court will then contact prospective adopters and request an interview. The interview is designed to help the court decide if you are suitable to complete the adoption. Additionally, you must complete a home study. This is an assessment of your home environment and ability to care for the children. During this assessment, you must be able to demonstrate that you can provide a safe and secure home to the children. Once the court is satisfied that you are suitable adopters, they will issue a decree of adoption. This decree is legally binding and will give you legal responsibility for the children as their legal parent. Upon the granting of the adoption, the court will close the case and your family will be officially recognized as the legal guardians of the children.
