What rules govern advertising of alcoholic beverages?

In Illinois, the consumption and advertising of alcoholic beverages is regulated by the Illinois Liquor Control Act. According to this Act, any advertisement of alcoholic beverages must include the phrase “under the authority of the Illinois Liquor Control Act” somewhere in the ad. The Act also requires that the advertisement must explicitly state that the sale of the alcoholic beverage is subject to the act and the rules of the Illinois Liquor Control Commission. Moreover, the advertisement must state that the sale of alcoholic beverages is restricted to patrons aged 21 and over who are not visibly intoxicated. The advertising of alcoholic beverages also requires warnings against the consumption of alcoholic beverages to pregnant women, people over the age of 65, and minors under the age of 21. These warnings must appear in all promotional material and must include a statement that states that drinking any type of alcoholic beverage during pregnancy can cause birth defects. Finally, the Illinois Liquor Control Act requires that any alcoholic beverage advertisement must not be false or misleading in any way and must not suggest that consuming alcoholic beverages is a prescription for success or a condition for achieving success. Furthermore, the advertisement must not contain any material that is indecent or obscene.
