What are the laws governing the use of agricultural chemicals?
In Georgia, agricultural chemicals are heavily regulated and must be used according to state law. Agricultural chemicals are defined as any substance used to control, regulate, or manage any pest, disease, or weed that may interfere with agricultural production. The Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) is responsible for regulating the use of agricultural chemicals. According to state law, all farmers and agricultural workers must be trained in the proper and safe use of agricultural chemicals. This training must be completed within the first year of employment. It must be renewed every three years thereafter. In addition to training requirements, all farmers and agricultural workers must obtain a state-issued pesticide applicator’s license. This license must be renewed every year, and must be available at all times when using chemicals. The license must be displayed in a visible location and updated with any current information. Lastly, when agricultural chemicals are being used, all farmers and agricultural workers must follow specific safety guidelines. These guidelines include wearing all required personal protective equipment, including safety goggles, respirators, long-sleeved clothing, and gloves. Proper storage and disposal of agricultural chemicals must also be followed in accordance with the GDA regulations. The use of agricultural chemicals is a necessary part of farming and agricultural production. It is important that all laws and regulations governing their use are strictly followed in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
