What are the regulations governing the transport of farm animals?

In West Virginia, the transportation of farm animals is governed by a variety of regulations. Animals must be transported according to the animal health regulations set forth by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. These regulations state that livestock must be properly confined during transport to ensure their safety and well-being. Animals must also be fed and watered every seven hours and provided with adequate ventilation during transport. In addition, vehicles used for transporting animals must be properly maintained to prevent injuries, illnesses, or death. All vehicles must be clearly marked as carrying animals and have working lights, brakes, and horns. Animals must also be restrained in the vehicle in order to reduce the risk of injuries due to movement or rough handling. Finally, all persons transporting animals must have a valid livestock transport permit issued by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. The permit identifies the animal(s) being transported, the dates of transport, the origin and destination of the animals, the number of animals being transported, and the name and address of the person or company responsible for the transport. By following the requirements of these regulations, West Virginia farmers can ensure the safe and humane transport of their farm animals.
