What is aviation security law?
Aviation security law is the set of regulations, laws, and standards governing the safety and security of aircraft, passengers, crew, and airports. In South Dakota, aviation security law is addressed by both federal and state laws. At the federal level, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has the primary authority to regulate the operation and safety of aircraft in the United States. These regulations include the requirement of an airport and aircraft security program. Under this program, all airports must ensure that their facilities and operations are secure and meet the safety and security standards of the FAA. In South Dakota, state law also regulates aviation security. According to the South Dakota Code, the South Dakota Aeronautics Commission has authority over safety and security in the state. This includes the capacity to enact regulations for the operation of all aircraft within the state, as well as set minimum security requirements for all public airports in the state. Further, the Commission has the right to inspect and audit any airport and its operations to ensure compliance with state regulations. In sum, aviation security law is a combination of federal and state regulations that are designed to ensure the safety and security of aircraft, passengers, crew, and airports.
