What types of aircraft are subject to international aviation regulations?
International aviation regulations are laws that apply to aircraft traveling between different countries, as well as within any one country. Generally, all aircraft, no matter where they are registered, are subject to international aviation regulations. This includes large commercial aircraft such as passenger jets, as well as small private aircraft such as general aviation aircraft. Even if the aircraft is not traveling between two different countries, it still needs to comply with international aviation regulations. This means that any aircraft flying in South Dakota, or anywhere else in the U.S. for that matter, must comply with these regulations. This includes international safety and operational standards as well as environmental and security protocols. Any aircraft weighing more than 12,500 lbs. or capable of carrying over 14 passengers must adhere to the regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). These aircraft must be registered with the FAA or with another civil aviation authority as part of the international aircraft registry. Additionally, aircrafts that are used for international air transport, scientific research, state aircraft such as military and government planes, or may be used for humanitarian activities must also comply with international aviation regulations. All aircraft need to comply with international aviation regulations in order to ensure safety and security of everyone in the air. This includes both passengers and crew. With the growing number of aircrafts in the sky, it is important that these regulations be followed in order to keep everyone safe.
