What are the regulations for aircraft operations in restricted airspace?
When aircraft enter restricted airspace in Florida, they are subject to certain regulations. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has established certain navigation rules to ensure the safety of those on board the aircraft and those on the ground. The FAA requires an aircraft to obtain authorization before entering a restricted airspace. This means that aircraft must file a flight plan with the FAA prior to entering restricted airspace. The flight plan should include information such as the intended altitude of the aircraft, the route it will take, and the total time of the flight. In addition to flight plan requirements, aircraft must also adhere to a handful of other regulations when operating in a restricted airspace. Radio silence must be maintained while in the restricted airspace, meaning aircraft are not permitted to transmit radio signals or contact air traffic control. In order to enter the restricted airspace, aircraft must have the appropriate aircraft instruments and equipment, be in visual flight rules (VFR) and operate at a minimum altitude of 2,000 feet above ground level. Finally, when operating in a restricted airspace, aircraft must maintain a strict course and speed. Pilots must remain at the set speed and course until they exit the airspace or receive authorization from a Flight Standards Inspector. Aircraft in restricted airspace are also prohibited from flying over densely populated areas or military installations. These regulations are in place to ensure the safety of those aboard the aircraft, those on the ground, and to protect restricted airspace.
