What is the process for obtaining an aircraft export certificate?

In order to obtain an aircraft export certificate in South Dakota, individuals must first obtain an FAA Export Airworthiness Certificate. This can be done by submitting an application to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The application must include a description of the aircraft, serial number, registration number, maintenance and inspection records, and proof of ownership. Once received, the FAA will inspect the aircraft to ensure that it meets all standards required for export. Once the aircraft has been approved for export, the individual must then obtain a South Dakota Aircraft Export Certificate. To do so, they must submit a completed Aircraft Export Certificate Application to the South Dakota Division of Aviation. This application must include information about the aircraft, the seller and buyer of the aircraft, and proposed delivery and transfer locations. After the application has been reviewed and processed, the applicant must then submit a Letter of Authorization from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. This letter must state that the aircraft is approved for export and must include information about the identity of the person exporting the aircraft. Once all documents have been received and approved, the South Dakota Division of Aviation will issue an aircraft export certificate. This document must be attached to the aircraft for the duration of the export shipment. Once the export shipment is complete, the certificate can be removed and returned to the Division of Aviation.
