What are the requirements for aircraft maintenance and operations personnel?
In California, there are two main requirements that must be met for aircraft maintenance and operations personnel. The first is that the person must have a valid Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certificate, such as an airframe and powerplant (A&P) certificate for maintenance personnel, or a commercial pilot certificate for operations personnel. The second requirement is that the person must be in compliance with the California Code of Regulations (CCR). This includes being familiar with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), and being able to demonstrate an understanding of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, as well as any state or local laws regarding aircraft maintenance. This includes both paper and practical tests, and must be completed in accordance with the California-specific requirements to be able to apply for the FAA certificate. In addition to FAA certification and CCR compliance, personnel who will be working on a California aircraft must also go through a background check to obtain a security clearance. This includes a criminal and driving record check, as well as a psychological evaluation. All aircraft maintenance and operations personnel must pass these qualifications in order to work with California aircraft.
