How is aircraft import/export regulated?
In South Carolina, the import and export of aircraft are regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA requires all operators of aircraft in the U.S. to obtain an FAA registration. Additionally, any import and export of aircraft must be reported to the FAA. The process of importing and exporting an aircraft begins with the completion of an FAA Form 8130-6, Certification of Aircraft Registration, and an FAA Form 8130-7, Aircraft Registration Application. Both forms must be filled out in order for the aircraft to be registered and operated in the U.S. Additionally, the form must include the aircraft registration number, aircraft make, model, and serial number. The FAA also requires the buyer and seller to complete an FAA Form 337, Declaration of U.S. Export and/or Import of an Aircraft. This form is used to ensure that the aircraft is being imported/exported in compliance with U.S. laws and regulations. The final step is to submit the above forms along with the original Bill of Sale, and the payment for the registration fee, to the FAA office in South Carolina. Once the aircraft is registered with the FAA, the aircraft may be legally operated in the U.S. In summary, the import and export of aircraft in South Carolina is regulated by the FAA. To legally import/export an aircraft, operators must fill out and submit an FAA Form 8130-6, Form 8130-7, and Form 337, along with the original Bill of Sale and payment for the registration fee.
