What countries have animal rights laws?
Animals around the world have limited protection from harm and cruelty in the form of animal rights laws. These laws vary from country to country, and some countries have better animal protection laws than others. In the United States, animal rights are protected at both the state and federal levels. The Animal Welfare Act is the primary federal animal rights law in the United States and covers animals in research, exhibition, and transportation. In addition, many states have additional protections for animals. For example, Washington State passed an animal rights law in 2019 that outlawed animal testing for cosmetics and banned the sale of any cosmetic that was tested on animals. Outside of the United States, many countries have also adopted animal rights laws. In Europe, the European Union has an animal protection law that requires all member states to meet certain criteria for animal welfare. Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil are some Latin American countries that have passed animal rights laws in recent years. India has a long history of animal rights protection and has several laws designed to protect animals. Finally, China recently adopted its first animal protection law in 2017 that prohibits animal mistreatment. Although animal rights laws are not perfect, they have improved the standard of animal welfare worldwide and provide a legal framework to protect animals from harm and cruelty.
