Can animals be used for labor or entertainment purposes?

In Alaska, the use of animals for labor or entertainment purposes is regulated by the state Animal Protection laws. The Alaska Statutes, Title 11, provide the legal framework in which any type of animal exploitation is prohibited, except when it is necessary for a purpose like scientific research or animal husbandry. According to the law, it is illegal to engage in activities that use animals for labor or entertainment purposes, such as bull-fighting, cock-fighting, and so on. Animals used in circuses, carnivals, races, gaming, and other forms of entertainment are also prohibited. Commercial animal exhibits, such as circuses, must obtain a permit from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in order to be compliant with the laws. The law also states that no person is allowed to capture, possess, sell, buy, transport, or harass any wild animal, except for the purpose of scientific research or animal husbandry. Further, it is prohibited to trap any domesticated or free-ranging animals, unless it is necessary for humane management or control of wild animal populations. In general, Alaska recognizes the rights of animals and has set up laws to protect them. Thus, it is generally not permissible to use animals for labor or entertainment purposes in Alaska.
