How are antitrust violations investigated?

Antitrust violations in Nebraska are investigated by the Nebraska Attorney General. The Attorney General’s Office is responsible for enforcing Nebraska’s antitrust laws which protect consumers from illegal business practices. The Attorney General’s office has the authority to investigate any alleged violation of the state’s antitrust laws. The investigations are conducted in three steps: Step 1: The Attorney General will review the evidence and information gathered by their staff to determine if there is a violation. Step 2: The Attorney General will seek a court order to stop the violation. Step 3: The Attorney General will bring a lawsuit against the company or individual responsible for the violation. In some cases, the Attorney General’s Office may seek financial restitution for the consumers who were harmed by the violation. In other cases, the Attorney General may seek criminal penalties for the individuals responsible for the violation. The Attorney General’s Office can also provide guidance to businesses and individuals on how to comply with the state’s antitrust laws. Additionally, the Attorney General’s Office works in collaboration with the Federal Trade Commission and other state law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute antitrust violations.
