What is the role of antitrust law in regulating labor markets?

Antitrust law in Oklahoma is designed to promote competition in the labor market and protect workers from unfair working conditions. This is done by preventing businesses from engaging in anticompetitive agreements that limit the availability of jobs or wages and preventing employers from unreasonably restraining employee mobility or advancement in the workplace. At the most basic level, antitrust law is intended to protect employees from having their wages suppressed below competitive levels that a free and open labor market would provide. Tying agreements between employers and employees are prohibited, preventing employers from requiring employees to stay with their company in exchange for job security or other advantages. Employers also cannot try to prevent employees from resigning or looking for a better job in the same market. Antitrust law also prohibits employers from colluding with each other to fix wages or other terms of employment. This type of agreement is common in certain industries, such as medical and legal professions, where employers agree to withhold certain benefits from employees or not to hire certain employees for a certain job. Aside from preventing unethical labor practices, antitrust law helps level the playing field for employers and employees by regulating the amount of competition in the market. This can result in fairer pay and better working conditions for employees, which in turn can benefit both employees and employers.
