What is a non-exclusive license?

A non-exclusive license is a type of legal agreement between two parties that allows the licensor to use a certain product or service. This type of license allows the licensor to use the property in question without restricting the use of it by any other party. In Nebraska, a non-exclusive license grants the licensor all rights to use the property or service, but does not prohibit the licensor from entering into similar agreements with other parties. A non-exclusive license can be beneficial in certain circumstances in terms of art law, such as if an artist wishes to license a work of art to multiple publishers in different countries. A non-exclusive license would allow the publisher in each country to use the artwork without the risk of infringing on the rights of the other publishers. Alternatively, if an artist wishes to replicate a piece of artwork to be sold in multiple locations, with each version of the artwork slightly different, a non-exclusive license can be beneficial. Similarly, non-exclusive licenses can also be beneficial to creators of digital content. For example, a musician may enter into a non-exclusive license with a streaming service to allow their content to appear on the service, while maintaining the right to also license the same content with other services. In short, a non-exclusive license is a legal agreement between two parties that allows the licensor to use the property or service in question without limiting its use to just one party. This type of license can be beneficial in art law, providing multiple opportunities for artists and creators of digital content.
