What are the laws about lane changing?

In Pennsylvania, there are a few laws pertaining to lane changing, also known as lane merging. Drivers are expected to merge safely and courteously into traffic. If a driver is merging onto a road with multiple lanes, they must merge in the right-most lane. Failing to merge in the right-most lane may result in a citation. Additionally, drivers should always use their turn signal when merging into a lane. This allows drivers in the lanes nearby to be aware of the merging car’s intentions. Before changing lanes, all drivers must check their side view and rear view mirrors to ensure that the intended lane is safe to enter. Drivers must make sure that there is enough distance between them and other vehicles in the lane they intend to enter, as well as any cars that are following them, in order to safely complete the lane change. Drivers must always be aware that they are required to abide by the posted speed limit and yield to any vehicles that have the right-of-way. Furthermore, drivers are not allowed to drive in the left lane of a multilane highway/roadway if they are not passing another vehicle, unless road signs indicate otherwise. Lastly, drivers should be well aware of the "Slower Traffic Keep Right" rule, which says that slower moving vehicles should drive in the right-most lane.
