What are the laws about headlights, taillights, and turn signals?
In New York, there are a variety of laws concerning headlights, taillights, and turn signals. All vehicles must have at least two sets of headlights in good working order. Headlights must be used from 30 minutes before sunset until 30 minutes after sunrise. During any time of the day, vehicles must have their headlights on if visibility is reduced due to heavy fog, rain, snow, or any other type of weather condition. Taillights must be used from sunset until sunrise. They must be mounted on both the rear and side of the vehicle and be in good working order. It is also mandatory for all vehicles to have turn signals. All vehicles must have turn signals located on their front and rear. When making a left turn, the turn signal must be activated at least 100 feet before making the turn. When making a right turn, the turn signal must be activated at least 50 feet before making the turn. If any of these laws are broken, a person could be fined. It is important to follow these laws to ensure that drivers maintain a safe driving environment.
