What are the laws about using a cellular phone while driving?
In Pennsylvania, it is illegal for any driver to use a hand-held cell phone or text while driving. This includes talking on the phone, texting, sending emails, or any other handheld use of the phone. This applies to all Pennsylvania drivers, including people with a valid driver’s license from another state. If drivers are caught using a cell phone while driving, they can be fined $50 for their first offense and up to $200 for additional offenses. Additionally, points can also be added to a driver’s record. Those under the age of 18 can also have their license suspended for up to 90 days if they are caught violating the cell phone law. The only exception to the cell phone law is if the driver is using a cell phone for emergency services, such as calling 911 or a hospital. Additionally, drivers may also use a hands-free cell phone device while driving as long as the device is completely voice-activated or the driver does not need to press any buttons on the device. It is important to remember to keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel, and mind on the task of driving whenever behind the wheel. Using a cell phone while driving can create a dangerous situation for the driver and those around them. By following the rules set forth by the Pennsylvania Legislature, drivers can help to keep the roads safe and ensure everyone’s safety.
