How is civil aviation law different from criminal aviation law?
Civil aviation law and criminal aviation law are two different aspects of aviation law. Civil aviation law applies to activities related to the operation of civilian aircraft, such as pilot licensing, aircraft maintenance, commercial and private carriers, airspace regulations, and air traffic control. This type of law is generally outlined by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Criminal aviation law applies to activities involving criminal acts in the airspace over any state, including Utah. This includes aircraft hijacking, terrorism, smuggling of dangerous cargo or people, or any other criminal act related to flying. These are regulated by federal laws, such as Title 18 of the United States Code. In most cases, the punishment for a civil aviation violation is much less severe compared to a criminal aviation violation. Civil aviation violations usually result in fines, suspension of licenses, or other administrative penalties. However, criminal aviation violations can lead to jail time, hefty fines, and loss of certain civil liberties. Ultimately, the difference between civil and criminal aviation law lies in the severity of the consequences. Civil aviation law applies to actions related to the operation of civilian aircraft, while criminal aviation law applies to illegal acts involving aircraft that could put other people’s safety in danger.
