What are the regulations regarding airspace restrictions?

Airspace restrictions in New Jersey are governed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). All aircraft operating in the state must abide by the federal laws and regulations concerning airspace. Airspace is divided into classes, including Class A, B, C, D, E, and G, and each class has specific regulations regarding aircraft operations. Class A airspace exists from 18,000 feet to 60,000 feet, and is known as "National Airspace System". This class of airspace requires specialized navigation and communication equipment, and is off-limits to non-airline flights. Class B airspace is designated airspace around airports and airports with control towers. It is generally from the ground up to 10,000 feet, and is intended to provide a buffer zone for regular airline traffic. In addition, pilots must receive permission to enter or exit Class B airspace. Pilots must contact the tower prior to entering Class D airspace. Class E airspace is the most flexible of all airspace classes, and extends from the surface to 18,000 feet. This class is mainly used for VFR flights; however, pilots must comply with the regulations concerning their aircraft and its operations in the airspace. Finally, Class G airspace is the least restrictive of all classes, and is composed of airspace below 1,200 feet and away from larger airports. Pilots operating in Class G airspace must still remain vigilant and comply with all FAA regulations.
