What is the difference between public and private air navigation services?
Public air navigation services are those provided by the state or federal government. These services may include airport and airspace management, air traffic control, navigation aids, communication networks, and aeronautical information services. Private air navigation services are those provided by industry and other private organisations. These can range from private firms providing airport and airspace management, air traffic control, communication networks, and navigation aids to charter companies providing specialized flight services. Other services like flight instruction, aircraft modifications, aircraft sales, aircraft maintenance, avionics, fuel supply, aircraft insurance, and aircraft manufacturing are also considered private services. The primary difference between public and private air navigation services is the degree to which they are regulated. Public air navigation services are subject to stringent industry regulation and oversight from federal agencies such as the Federal Aviation Administration, while private services are usually only subject to limited regulation and oversight. This means that the quality of public services is generally higher and more uniform than that of private services. Additionally, public services usually have greater access to government funding and support than private services.
