What is the process for obtaining an air carrier certificate?

In order to obtain an air carrier certificate in Utah, a person must first submit an application to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA requires applicants to submit their personal information, aircraft information, and operating information. This includes previous flight experience, training, aircraft safety and maintenance records, and route maps. If approved, the FAA will issue a Certificate of Airworthiness. Once the Certificate of Airworthiness is acquired, the applicant must then submit an application to the Utah Department of Transportation (DOT) Aviation Office. This application will need to include the following information: the applicant’s Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs) endorsement certifying they have the necessary qualifications to operate the aircraft safely and efficiently, a copy of the aircraft’s airworthiness certificate, and the required information from the FAA’s application. Upon receiving the application, the Utah DOT Aviation Office will review it and ask for any additional information or documents if needed. Once the application is complete and the applicant has met all the necessary requirements, the Utah DOT Aviation Office will then issue the air carrier certificate. This document will allow the applicant to legally provide air transport services within Utah.
