What are the requirements for air taxi and air charter operations?
In South Carolina, air taxi and air charter operations are regulated by the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. These operations must comply with certain requirements in order to operate in the state. First, air taxi and air charter operations must obtain an air taxi/air charter certificate from the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. This certificate is valid for a two-year period and must be renewed every two years. In addition, air taxi and air charter operators must maintain a valid drug and alcohol program consistent with Federal Aviation Administration regulations. The Program must include a pre-employment drug test, random drug testing, and post-accident drug testing. The vehicles used for air taxi and air charter operations must also be inspected at least once every 12 months, and air taxi and air charter operations must possess proof of liability insurance in an amount determined by the South Carolina Aeronautics Commission. Finally, air taxi and air charter aircraft may not be used for operations outside of South Carolina until the operator has obtained an Interstate Air Taxi Certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration. This certificate must be kept on board the aircraft at all times while operating outside of South Carolina. In summary, air taxi and air charter operations in South Carolina must obtain an air taxi/air charter certificate, maintain a valid drug and alcohol program, have their vehicles inspected at least once a year, possess proof of liability insurance, and obtain an Interstate Air Taxi Certificate from the FAA to operate outside of the state.
