How is air cargo regulated?
Air cargo is regulated in California by both the US government and the State of California. The US government regulates air cargo under the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA is responsible for providing safety regulations for aircraft, airports, and air navigation systems. This includes aircraft registration requirements, air traffic control, aircraft maintenance, and aircraft licensing. The FAA also provides regulations for air cargo carriers, including crew and pilot requirements, aircraft maintenance requirements, cargo packing and loading requirements, and aircraft operating requirements. California also has its own regulations for air cargo. The California Division of Aeronautics provides licensing requirements for cargo operators, including obtaining a proper license and providing proof of insurance. There are also cargo inspection requirements mandated by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, including weight and balance regulations, labeling and packaging regulations, and cargo security and document handling regulations. Finally, air cargo carriers must abide by security regulations put in place by the Transportation Security Administration. This includes background check requirements for cargo operators, as well as the screening of cargo at airports prior to loading it onto an aircraft. The TSA also has the authority to inspect cargo carriers and their aircraft for compliance with security regulations. In summary, air cargo is regulated in California by both the US government and the State of California. The federal government provides aircraft safety regulations, and the State of California provides licensing and inspection requirements. Security regulations for air cargo carriers are provided by the Transportation Security Administration. All these regulations are in place to ensure the safety and security of air cargo operations in California.
