How is air cargo regulated?

Air cargo is regulated by aviation law in New Jersey, just like in all other states. Air cargo includes any goods, products, animals, or packages that are transported through the air by aircraft. It is regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), as well as other international and national organizations. The FAA sets safety and security regulations for any air cargo that passes through the state. The FAA requires all air cargo carriers to obtain a certificate issued by an FAA-approved organization and operate aircraft that meet the organization’s standards. The FAA also inspects air cargo carriers to ensure that their operations are safe and compliant with federal regulations. These inspections may include an aircraft safety review and a review of operational procedures. In addition, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) has developed guidelines for air cargo carriers that must be followed. These guidelines require carriers to consult with an IATA-approved packaging expert when packaging goods and to record all cargo information including weight, size, and destination. IATA also requires that all air cargo be clearly marked and labeled with relevant information about the shipment. Finally, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) oversees the security of air cargo. The TSA sets standards for the safety and security of all air cargo, including strict rules on what kinds of cargo can be transported, and how any prohibited items may be handled. The TSA also has the responsibility to screen all air cargo for any potential security threats.
