What are the requirements for obtaining an aviation medical certificate?
In order to obtain an aviation medical certificate in Kansas, an individual must meet certain criteria and fulfill certain requirements. First, the individual must be at least 16 years old in order to get a student pilot certificate, or at least 17 years old to get a private, commercial, flight instructor, or airline transport pilot certificate. The individual must then contact and make an appointment with a medical examiner on the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) list of Aviation Medical Examiners. The medical examiner may determine that an individual is qualified to fly based on information obtained from the applicant and from the physical exam. As part of the application process, the individual must also submit to the FAA forms and records of the physical examination, including an application, a medical history, any supporting documents such as vision tests, and any other records that the examiner deems necessary. After the medical examination is complete, the individual must pay the FAA a fee for processing the application and receive a certificate. The certificate will outline the medical requirements with which the individual must comply in order to remain valid. Finally, the individual must pass a knowledge test related to medical health and safety in order to obtain a pilot’s license.
