What are the requirements for aircraft maintenance records?

In Michigan, aircraft maintenance records must include a record of maintenance that has been performed, the maximum total flight time of the aircraft and the time since the last inspection, as well as any replacement parts and materials used. All maintenance records must be kept at the aircraft owner’s or operator’s facilities and must be available for inspection by the Michigan Department of Transportation or other authorized body. The maintenance record must include the following information: the aircraft’s manufacturer, model/series number, and serial number; the name of the person who performed the maintenance and the date such maintenance was performed; the type of maintenance performed; and the total flight time between the time of the last inspection and the current date. Additionally, if the aircraft has had an engine overhaul, the maintenance record must document the total time since the overhaul and the type of overhaul that was done. If any part or material has been replaced or repaired during maintenance, the replacement parts and materials must be recorded in the maintenance record. These parts and materials must include the part number and type, serial number, and date of installation, as well as the name of the person who installed the part or material. The engineer performing the maintenance is also required to sign and date the maintenance record. The aircraft owner or operator must also submit a detailed report of any repairs, alterations, or replacements made to the aircraft within 30 days of the maintenance.
