What is the process for obtaining an airworthiness certificate?

In Minnesota, obtaining an airworthiness certificate requires following a series of steps established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). First, you must submit an application for the airworthiness certificate to the FAA Aircraft Certification Office. The application must be accompanied by the appropriate forms, fees, and supporting documentation. Once the application has been received, the FAA will inspect the aircraft to ensure it meets all airworthiness standards. This inspection includes a review of the aircraft’s design, systems, components, and performance. Once the inspection is complete, the FAA will issue an airworthiness certificate, which is valid for a period of 24 months. After obtaining the airworthiness certificate, the aircraft must then pass an annual or 100-hour inspection to maintain the certificate. During the inspection, the aircraft must be checked for airworthiness standards by an approved repair facility and/or FAA inspector. Once the inspector or repair facility has determined that the aircraft meets airworthiness standards, the certificate will be renewed and valid for another 24 months. Finally, any changes made to the aircraft must be reported to the FAA Aircraft Certification Office. This includes reporting modifications or repairs, as well as any maintenance activities or special inspections that have been performed on the aircraft. If all necessary paperwork has been submitted and the changes have been approved by the FAA, the airworthiness certificate will be maintained and valid.
