What is the process for obtaining an endorsement to carry hazardous materials?

In Kansas, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulates the process of obtaining an endorsement to carry hazardous materials through aviation law. If you wish to obtain the endorsement, you must meet several requirements. First, you must pass a separate Knowledge Test that the FAA requires all pilots wishing to obtain the endorsement to take. This test must be taken at an FAA approved testing center. The questions on the test will cover hazardous materials as it relates to aviation, including proper labeling, packaging, and storage. Second, you must obtain an endorsement from either a Certificated Flight Instructor or an FAA-designated Examiner. As part of the endorsement, the instructor or examiner must certify that you have received proper training and instruction in regard to hazardous materials and the rules and regulations pertaining to their transportation. Third, you must fill out and submit an FAA Form 7711-2. This form must be completed and submitted to the local Flight Standards District Office by the Certificated Flight Instructor or the FAA-designated Examiner. Finally, after the Flight Standards District Office receives your paperwork, they will review it and issue you the endorsement. The official endorsement will be sent to the address you listed on the Form 7711-2. Once you have the endorsement, you can transport hazardous materials via aviation. It is important to note that endorsements are valid for two years and must be renewed before they expire.
