What are the regulations governing air traffic control personnel?

In North Carolina, air traffic controllers are subject to the same set of regulations as those enforced by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). All air traffic controllers must be certified by the FAA and must be recertified every two years. This must be renewed on a regular basis, and controllers must be familiar with the medical regulations that govern their duties. All controllers must also adhere to the standards set forth by the FAA regarding the use of drugs and alcohol.
