What is the difference between a traumatic brain injury and a mild traumatic brain injury?
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (MTBI) are both common injuries that can occur due to a violent blow or jolt to the head. TBI is a more serious form of head injury than MTBI, and can result in long-term damage to the brain. The effects of TBI can include changes in physical, cognitive, and psychological abilities. These effects, such as memory loss, depression, and seizure disorders, can last for years. In contrast to TBI, MTBI is less severe and results from a milder form of head trauma. It usually involves a short-term loss of consciousness and other symptoms that may resolve within a few hours or days. Symptoms of MTBI can include headaches, confusion, dizziness, fatigue, and short-term memory issues. While these symptoms can be quite distressing, most people will recover without any long-term damage to the brain. In California, victims of brain injuries can pursue legal action if their injuries were caused by the reckless or negligent actions of another person or entity. A successful personal injury claim seeks to recover damages, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. It is important to note that the damages may be different depending on whether a victim has suffered a TBI or MTBI, as the effects of a TBI are often more severe and long-lasting than those of an MTBI.
