What are the major state and federal labor laws?

In Oregon, the major labor laws come from both the state and federal governments. The Oregon Bureau of Labor & Industries (BOLI) handles several of these laws. One of the most important labor laws in Oregon is the Oregon Minimum Wage Law, which provides that all employees in the state must be paid at least the state minimum wage. This law is regularly adjusted to keep up with inflation and other economic changes. Other labor laws include those governing meal and rest breaks, overtime pay, time off, vacation pay, and tips. These laws are also enforced by the BOLI. Federal labor laws, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), also have an impact on labor practices in Oregon. The FLSA establishes standards for minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor. OSHA sets standards for worker safety and health. Oregon also has laws in place that protect workers from discrimination, workplace harassment, and unjust termination. Employers must provide reasonable accommodations for workers with disabilities, as well as for those with religious beliefs. Finally, Oregon also has laws in place to protect whistleblowers who come forward to report employer wrongdoing or safety concerns.
