What types of rights do children have under International Law?

Under International Law, children have various rights. These include the right to life, the right to freedom of expression, the right to be protected from exploitation, discrimination, and abuse, and the right to education, health care, and a decent standard of living. Additionally, they have the right to participate in decisions that affect them and the right to be consulted when their parents or carers are making decisions that could impact them. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) is one of the major tools for protecting children’s rights. Adopted in 1989, the UNCRC sets out a number of rights that governments must implement for all children. The Convention protects the civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights of all children, regardless of their race, sex, religion, or any other factor. In Kansas, Child Advocacy Law applies the UNCRC in a range of legal contexts. For example, the law covers issues related to adoption, marriage, custody, guardianship, and the legal protection of children from harm. In addition, the law enforces the right of children to have access to quality healthcare, and their right to an education. Furthermore, Child Advocacy Law ensures that the child’s best interests are taken into account when making decisions that will affect them.
