What are the medical and recreational cannabis laws in my state?
In New Hampshire, there is a legal medical cannabis program, as well as a limited decriminalization of cannabis. Medical cannabis is legal in New Hampshire for qualified patients with certain medical conditions. These conditions include cancer, chronic pain, HIV/AIDS, and PTSD. Patients must obtain a medical marijuana card from the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services in order to legally access medical cannabis. The decriminalization of cannabis in New Hampshire means that possession of small amounts (up to three-quarters of an ounce) of marijuana is punishable by a fine instead of jail time. It is still illegal to sell or distribute any amount of marijuana, but possession of the aforementioned amount is only a civil violation. Recreational cannabis is not currently legal in New Hampshire; however, the governor has recently proposed a bill that could legalize it. If the bill passes, adults 21 and over would be able to legally purchase and possess cannabis for recreational use. The bill has been stalled in the legislature, so we will have to wait and see if it passes. Overall, New Hampshire has a limited medical cannabis program and a minor decriminalization of cannabis, but recreational use is still illegal. If the proposed bill passes, New Hampshire could become one of the few states with legal recreational cannabis.
