What are the medical and recreational cannabis laws in my state?

In the state of Pennsylvania, both medical and recreational cannabis laws exist. Medical cannabis is available only through the state’s Medical Marijuana Program. In order to become certified, individuals must register with the Department of Health and obtain a recommendation from a certified health practitioner. Individuals can then purchase only approved medical marijuana products from one of the state’s licensed medical dispensaries. Recreational cannabis use, on the other hand, is illegal in Pennsylvania. Possession of up to 30 grams of cannabis is considered a misdemeanor punishable by up to 1 year in prison and a fine of up to $500. Possession of more than 30 grams is punishable by up to 3 years in prison and a fine up to $5,000. While medical cannabis is legal, recreational use is illegal and Pennsylvania residents can be charged with a variety of different punishments for breaking the law.
