Is it legal to buy cannabis in my state?
No, it is not legal to buy cannabis in the state of Tennessee. Cannabis is prohibited in the state and is only available for medical use, with very specific qualifying conditions. The possession of any amount of cannabis is classified as a misdemeanor, punishable by up to one year in jail and up to $2,500 in fines. The sale of cannabis of any amount is classified as a felony, punishable by up to 6 years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines. The only way in which one may legally acquire cannabis is by having a valid medical cannabis card from the Tennessee Department of Health. To qualify for the card, one must have one of the few accepted medical conditions and must have a valid medical marijuana recommendation from a physician. Additionally, there are very few medical marijuana dispensary locations in the state. The possession of any amount of cannabis with the intent to sell it is still illegal, as is the cultivation of cannabis and cannabis products. Because of the strict regulations on the sale and distribution of cannabis in Tennessee, it is not legal for people to purchase cannabis in the state.
