Are there any restrictions on cannabis packaging and labelling?
In Mississippi, there are restrictions on cannabis packaging and labelling. All cannabis products must be packaged in a tamper-evident and child-resistant container. The packaging must also be prominently and clearly labelled, bearing the following information: the name and address of the cultivator; the name of the product; the total net weight of the product; a warning label that marijuana is not suitable for children; and a universal symbol that conveys the product contains marijuana. Additionally, the product must be labelled with the date the product was produced and the date of initial sale. In addition, the label must include a list of all ingredients contained in the product, as well as the quantity of each ingredient. The label must also clearly state the cannabinoid content and other active ingredients contained in the product, as well as the route of administration (by mouth, smoke inhalation, etc.). If the product is intended to treat, prevent, or diagnose any medical condition or illness, then the label must also include the statement “This product has not been evaluated by the FDA.” Finally, the label must bear the words “Keep Out of Reach of Children,” and any other warning that may be required by state or federal law. Mississippi does not permit the use of cartoon characters or other advertising techniques that appeal to children when packaging cannabis products.
