Are there limits on the amount of cannabis that can be possessed or cultivated?

Yes, there are limits on the amount of cannabis that can be legally possessed or cultivated in California. According to the state’s cannabis laws, an adult 21 and over can possess no more than 28.5 grams of cannabis flower and up to 8 grams of cannabis concentrates- such as wax and other oils- at any given time. In addition, an adult may cultivate up to six cannabis plants within a private residence, however only three can be mature and flowering at any one time. To possess more than these legal limits, a person must have a license from the state of California’s Department of Food and Agriculture - such as an A-license - which permits the growing, cultivation, sale and distribution of adult-use cannabis products. A-license holders can possess more than 28.5 grams of cannabis flower, up to 8 grams of cannabis concentrates, and more than six cannabis plants. Moreover, those with a medical cannabis recommendation from a licensed physician may obtain up to 8 ounces of cannabis or more depending on the recommendation from their doctor.
