Are there any laws concerning the transportation of cannabis?
Laws concerning the transportation of cannabis in Nebraska are quite restrictive. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, it is illegal to possess, sell, and transport cannabis in the state. It is also illegal to transport any cannabis-derived products, including oils and edibles, in any form, even for medical purposes. Any transport of cannabis is considered a violation of both state and federal law. It is also illegal to transport cannabis, in any form, across state lines. This includes vehicles, aircraft, trains, and ships. Even if the cannabis is being transported legally in one state, it is still illegal to transport it into another state. Anyone found in possession of cannabis in Nebraska who is not a state-certified medical cannabis patient could be subject to arrest and criminal penalties. Despite the legal restrictions in place, cannabis advocates in Nebraska are working hard to make changes to the law. In 2020, the state passed a law to decriminalize the possession of certain amounts of cannabis. This law reduced first-time cannabis possession offenses from a criminal charge to a civil infraction and eliminated jail requirements. However, this law does not change the prohibition of transporting cannabis in any form.
