Are there any restrictions on the sale of cannabis paraphernalia?
In Mississippi, there are restrictions on the sale of cannabis paraphernalia. In 2017, Mississippi legislators passed House Bill 843, which made it illegal to sell drug paraphernalia related to cannabis. The bill resulted in the closure of several head shops around the state that had been selling pipes, papers, and other accessories related to the use of marijuana. The law does allow for the sale of bongs, pipes, and papers that are used with tobacco products; however, all items must be clearly labeled for use only with tobacco. In addition, retailers must display signs stating that it is illegal to possess or use marijuana with any of the paraphernalia on sale in the store. Anyone caught selling drug paraphernalia that is related to marijuana can face criminal charges. Those who are charged with this crime can be fined up to $500, and/or spend up to six months in prison. Anyone caught in possession of cannabis paraphernalia can also face criminal charges. Possession of cannabis paraphernalia is a misdemeanor and can result in up to a $500 fine, and/or up to six months in jail. Additionally, the paraphernalia will be confiscated and destroyed. Overall, Mississippi has strict laws regarding the sale of cannabis paraphernalia. Retailers must be aware of the law and take steps to ensure that customers do not buy the paraphernalia for use with marijuana. Anyone caught violating the law could face criminal penalties.
