The answer to the question of whether it is legal to grow cannabis plants outdoors in Tennessee is a resounding no. In the state of Tennessee, all aspects of cannabis cultivation, processing, and use are illegal. This includes growing cannabis outdoors, regardless of the purpose. Possession of cannabis in the state is a misdemeanor for amounts that are not more than 1/2 ounce, and it can lead to up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $2,500. Growing cannabis plants outdoors is illegal and punishable by up to 6 years in prison and/or a fine of up to $3,000. It is currently legal for medical cannabis to be used in the state of Tennessee for certain conditions, however, the patient must obtain the cannabis from an approved dispensary and is not allowed to grow their own plants. Furthermore, recreational use and sale of cannabis is still illegal in the state. Therefore, it is not legal to grow cannabis plants outdoors in Tennessee.
