Are there any laws concerning the sale of cannabis to out-of-state visitors?
In Hawaii, there are very strict laws concerning the sale of cannabis to out-of-state visitors. Under the law, it is illegal for any person to purchase, possess, or use cannabis or its products in any form. Out-of-state visitors are also not allowed to transport cannabis in any form, either across the state line or within the state’s borders. The only exception to this law is medical cannabis. In July 2000, Hawaii passed legislation that allows adults to purchase and use cannabis for medical purposes. Patients must receive a medical cannabis card from a certified physician to be legally allowed to purchase and possess medical cannabis. Out-of-state visitors can obtain a medical cannabis card from a certified physician in Hawaii, but must be present in the state to receive it. Cannabis remains illegal in all other forms for out-of-state visitors. Selling or giving away cannabis to out-of-state visitors is also illegal and can result in criminal charges and penalties. It is important to be aware of all of Hawaii’s laws concerning cannabis, so that visitors can avoid unnecessary legal trouble.
