Are there any requirements for medical cannabis patients to obtain a medical marijuana card?
In Mississippi, there are specific requirements for medical marijuana patients to obtain a medical marijuana card. Under the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Program, individuals must obtain a written certification from a licensed physician who has completed a full assessment of the patient’s medical history and current medical condition. The certifying physician must also be enrolled with the Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure. In order to qualify for medical cannabis, patients must have at least one of the following qualifying medical conditions: cancer, epileptic seizures, spinal cord injury/disease, HIV/AIDS, Crohn’s disease, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Patients must also be a Mississippi resident and have proof of a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license or other government-issued identification card. In addition, all medical marijuana patients in the state must register with the Mississippi Medical Marijuana Program and obtain their medical marijuana card before they can purchase, possess, and use cannabis products. To complete the registration process, patients must meet all the eligibility requirements and submit an application to the Mississippi Department of Health. Once the application is approved, patients can then obtain a medical marijuana card from the department that will allow them to purchase, possess, and use medical cannabis products.
